Overlay Basics

Overlays are private browser URLs you add to OBS (or any browser-source-capable app) so viewers see alerts, chat, tip menus, timers, and more on stream. Configure each overlay in the dashboard; OBS only displays the URL.

Open Overlays (/overlays): Creator + Premium.

How overlays work

  1. Pick an overlay type from the hub (Alerts, Chat, Tip menu, etc.).
  2. Tune colors, fonts, and behavior in the editor.
  3. Copy the browser source URL (includes a secret token query parameter).
  4. Add a Browser source in OBS pointing at that URL.
  5. Trigger test events (Test Tips, pokes, control links) to preview.
Test outside OBS first

Open the overlay URL in a normal Chrome tab before adding it to OBS. If it is blank in the browser, OBS will be blank too.

Token security

Each URL contains a token so OBS can load without logging in. Regenerate token in the editor if a URL leaks: old OBS sources stop until you update them.

What you need

  • Premium creator account
  • OBS or stream software with browser sources
  • pokesBot paired for live tip/chat-driven overlays

How to test

Trigger test tips and confirm overlay updates within a second or two in a browser tab.
